  10.    ViewLog, v5.02 is an update to fix a "real" bug in the VL_Maint file when
  11. used on systems with less than 15 logs created initially. This version also
  12. has my newest error-checking routines installed(which translate the lethal
  13. mci-code characters into their readable { and \ counterparts).
  14.  
  15.    ViewLog, v5.01 is an update to correct some corrupted characters that were
  16. in some v5.00 command files, which caused them not to be usable.
  17.  
  18.    ViewLog, v5.00 was completely rewritten from the ground up to be much
  19. more powerful than previous versions. This version of ViewLog was written
  20. for use with the latest versions of CNet Amiga(v4.22 as of this writing),
  21. and will NOT function on earlier versions. (Grab a copy of ViewLog, v4.1 if 
  22. you'd like to use this on a v3.05c CNet version)

  24.    What ViewLog does is to read how you have your current logs setup(in the
  25. CNet Config program), then additionally goes into your "SysData:Log/" path
  26. and looks there for any OTHER logs you may have set up. It then adds these
  27. logs to it's config file, so that you can edit them further.
  28.  
  29.    For each log scanned in, the following can be done to each:
  30.  
  31.     - You can specify an Access Group Range for each log, which determines
  32.       which, if any, users on your bbs can view the log.
  33.  
  34.     - You can choose to trim the log yourself, or to let automaintenance
  35.       do it.
  36.  
  37.     - You can specify how LONG each log should be(in lines) after it has
  38.       been trimmed.
  39.  
  40.     - You can optionally specify if a log should have a "history" kept on
  41.       it. This history will contain all previously trimmed portions of the
  42.       original log file.
  43.  
  44.     - You can specify how LONG each log HISTORY should be(again, in lines)
  45.       after it has been trimmed.
  46.  
  47.     - You can create a "header" for each log, which makes it a bit easier
  48.       to figure out what the info in each log MEANS.
  49.  
  50.     - You can set a "Master SysOp" flag, which means only the SysOp holding
  51.       ID number 1 can trim or delete a log or history file.
  52.  
  53.    The USER Version of ViewLog will list ONLY those logs THAT user has
  54. access to reading. Depending on the user's terminal settings, they will
  55. have the ability to use an ANSI selection method, or an ASCII menu system.
  56.  
  57.    The SYSOP Version of ViewLog allows the SysOp to view logs and histories,
  58. trim any log/history, delete any log/history, launch the config, maint, or
  59. amaint modules, as well as various other goodies! :-)
  60.  
  61.    Used in conjunction with my AnsiRead Program, the users and sysops also
  62. have the full power to search, count, mark and save text, and easily move
  63. around within each log file. If you don't already have AnsiRead, then I
  64. HIGHLY suggest getting a copy of this file for use with ViewLog, v5.00!

  68.     - Release Date: October 2, 1996!
  69.     - This version SPECIFICALLY written for v4.23 CNet Amiga, and will NOT
  70.       run on earlier 4.xx versions, NOR will it run on v3.05c. SysOps till
  71.       using v3.05c will have to continue using the 4.1 version ViewLog.
  72.     - Those bugs I could remember in the BETA version were removed, and the
  73.       following additional changes were also made:
  74.         - The "ViewLog5.cfg" file is now stored directly in the "ViewLog5/"
  75.           directory, and it is now possible to store this directory ANYWHERE
  76.           on your system you so wish.
  77.         - The CONFIG program was modified:
  78.             - The "Command Path" was removed, as it is no longer needed.
  79.             - Toggles for AnsiRead usage in both the LF and VL modules were
  80.               included.
  81.             - A complete path/filename are now asked for the LOCATION of the
  82.               AnsiRead program IF you'll be using it.
  83.         - The AMAINT program received some corrections, notably where it
  84.           saw instances of your first defined log(in the VL_Data) file as
  85.           being NEW. The output of this file, while it is running, was also
  86.           modified to more adequately describe what it is doing.
  87.         - The MAINT program needed certain modifications to it's getuser
  88.           values in order to correctly read your log values from CNet's
  89.           memory structures. The "Q" command was also fixed.
  90.         - The USERLOG viewer received the enhanced AnsiRead calls, as well
  91.           as the "smart" path changes.
  92.         - The SYSOPLOG viewer received the same changes as were made to the
  93.           USERLOG, and additionally:
  94.             - The "A" command was not working.
  95.             - History files were being corrupted during trimming operations.
  96.             - The colors used for displaying the names of the logs were not
  97.               being reset properly when the "ALL" menu receeded off the top
  98.               of the screen.
  99.             - A few additional confirmation requests were added in areas
  100.               where they were lacking.
  101.         - The amigaguide doc file was updated to include info on suggested
  102.           log usage, as well as having it's BETA notes removed. This HISTORY
  103.           file was also included.

  105. === v4.90 ===
  106.  
  107.     - This was the BETA version 5.00, released February 20, 1996 to only a
  108.       handful of users. Written for the first release of CNet, v4.xx by Ken
  109.       Pletzer, this file was started completely from scratch, as there were
  110.       some specific NEW features I wanted to see added:
  111.  
  112.         - You can now specify ACCESS GROUP RANGES for each log to be used
  113.           in the determination of who exactly gets to see each log.
  114.         - Separate group ranges, as well as a "master" control were also
  115.           added to determine who has the ability to perform maintenance on
  116.           each log.
  117.         - The logs can now be TRIMMED, or shortened to a specified number
  118.           of lines, again where each log can have it's own trim value.
  119.         - If you so choose, each log can also have a "history" file created
  120.           from the "trimmings" of the above operation. You can also specify
  121.           the length you wish each history file to be.
  122.         - A new ANSI (and Ascii) screen display has been added for the User
  123.           Log, so that ALL users can view logs.
  124.         - A superior SysOp ViewLog module was also included.
  125.         - A companion program, AnsiRead, is highly suggested to be used in
  126.           conjunction with ViewLog. This AnsiRead program is used in the
  127.           display of the logs and offers MANY commands for manipulating the
  128.           log, searching for text strings, enabling/disabling interpretation
  129.           of ANSI/MCI codes and MUCH, MUCH more.
  130.         - The main README file was converted to AmigaGuide for more ease of
  131.           use, as well as receiving "enhancements" for those using the 3.1
  132.           operating systems.
  133.         - A "title" bar can also be created for each log, which is useful
  134.           in figuring out what the DATA in a log means.
